Towards a professional future with Stobba
Machining technicians, technical product designers, electronics technicians in automation technology, industrial clerks, warehouse logistics specialists – for decades, the track has offered a wide range of apprenticeships that are an important part of our future orientation.
There are currently 46 apprentices working in Memmingen and Backnang. Why did they choose stoba and how is their training in the current special situation? What is most important for a training manager, asks the C|X team.
“I particularly like the variety of activities in the different departments,” says first-year industrial sales apprentice Svenja Gajewski.” The teamwork in the training department is great and everyone helps each other when they have problems. The early introduction to CNC technology was also a definite benefit for me,” says Lars Obrecht, a first-year apprentice in industrial mechanics. Tobias Steidele, an electronics technician in automation technology who is in his second year of apprenticeship, is also enthusiastic: “I did a week’s apprenticeship at Stobar and after a week I knew I wanted to apply for an apprenticeship. I particularly like the fact that I won’t just be doing the apprenticeship in the workshop, but will also be working in production and on the assembly floor.” Practical experience and personal support are key to everything It is clear that practical relevance and peer support are key elements of the training programme. The former is reflected in the structure of the training programme. At Backnang, for example, trainees start programming CNC on their own projects at the end of the first year of training.” From the second year of the apprenticeship, after completing all the basic training, the apprentices are already working in production and are very important and competent members of the team,” explains Markus Gebhardt, Head of Training at Backnang. This is a speciality – because in other companies, apprentices are usually reintegrated into production in the first year.

Close cooperation between trainers and trainees is not a given. This good cooperation was particularly important during this period. It has also been possible to overcome the problems that the coronavirus poses for home teaching. The cancellation of teaching at vocational schools has also been largely compensated for by supplementing the actual regular curriculum. The coronavirus crisis has not been easy However, other challenges have accompanied and continue to accompany the coronavirus crisis. For example, study sessions can now only take place online or have to be conducted in small groups, contact with colleagues who drive students to appointments has become more time and labour intensive, and people in the company have to comply with as many health and special regulations as anyone else.” Markus Gebhardt concludes, “It requires a lot more organisation and time.” But it was definitely worth it and we are very happy with the organisation.” Angela Ott-Schwaderer, Business Training Manager at Backnang, adds: “I was also impressed by the perseverance shown by the participants.” All participants were very satisfied. Markus Gebhardt points out, “In principle, all the training managers agree that working with the trainees is an extremely valuable asset for the future of stoba.
